introducing You Si ::

DannyYungOnYouSI:: 56minus1 has long been an admirer of You Si.

Who is he? You Si is a radically unique artist from Shanghai who, with little more than an eye dropper, creates mind-bending and color-juxtaposed ink-and-wash pieces unlike any of his peers.

In the coming weeks, 56minus1 will be releasing a “The Shanghai Beat” episode featuring an interview with You Si in which he talks about his work, his technique, and his thoughts on the Chinese contemporary art scene. Stay tuned.

Below are a few examples of his work.

    These are definitely cool, hope the video shows the technique in action.

    Congrats to Art Labor for putting together a great show for You Si in September. An interesting artist; looking forward to Shanghai Beat’s take.

    Very nice works, thanks for sharing them…

    Here is what I felt:
    opening folds of jade (2008): Georgia O’Keefe meets Ishihara
    morphe in jangala (2008): Klimt meets plant cellularism
    seascape: Escher meets DNA

    Can’t wait to see the video with the interview!

    I went to You Si’s show put on by Art Labor at the Red Town in Shanghai and it was incredible!

    His work is some of the best I’ve seen in China in a long long time. I think he is the future of what this art seen needs! I love my country but lately the artists have been sucking, so bored!! You si is really great!!!!!

    Hey, nice review about You Si! Thanks for that 56minus1…as his gallerist, I always like to see positive reviews about our artists!

    I like ET’s interpretation and comparison. You Si does indeed have many sides to compare from.

    Its unique work and if anyone still wants to see them, the ones that haven’t sold yet are on the walls of our gallery until November 18th! [Art Labor is Shanghai on Yongjia Lu close to Shanxi Nan Lu]
