:: we had a party last night at my place and I decide to capture the second half of it with a new iPhone app called Hipstimatic. I used the Kaimal Mark II lens, however, there are quite a few more you can add-on.
:: it’s not often you see good stencil graffiti in China – see below for a some at Beijing’s 798 / Dashanzi art district. This photograph was taken by Beijing-based Mårten Strassburg. To see more of Mårten’s photography, link here. If you spot graffiti or urban art anywhere in China, please share it with us at EDGE@Neocha.com. We’d like to document it on NeochaEDGE. :: taken at the Shanghai Botanical Gardens (上海植物园), where I spent my Sunday picnicking and lounging with friends on this grass patch of paradise. This photo was taken on my iPhone using PANO, a fun panoramic (vertical or horizontal) application I highly recommend. This is four separate photos stitched together, the application can do up to sixteen. Me like-y. // AjS

:: taken in Beijing, on West Dawang Rd. close to the Guanghua Rd. intersection. I snapped this photo without much thought, but it has turned out to be one of the best photographs I’ve ever taken. The funny thing is – I took it with my iPhone. With all due respect to an otherwise great device, the iPhone camera is usually a mediocre-at-best camera. // AjS
:: a fun stop-action animation video titled WHITE (白) done in a graffiti style on a brick wall with (what appears to be) chalk. Created by Shen Zheng and Yan Dong, students at Jilin’s Academy of Fine Arts and Communications / Media University. Warning: at about the 4-minute mark the video unfortunately goes from “great” to “not really worth watching.” Nevertheless, the front end is well done. Enjoy. // AjS
:: I recently had lunch with Beijing-based photographer Doug Kanter, and today I stumbling upon a portrait series he did with an old style 4×5 / large format camera from the 2007 MIDI music festival in Beijing. The photo just below is from that series: on the left is Lin Yun, a 22 year old art student from Guangzhou; on the right is 24 year old Liu Aruhan, with a tattoo of the Chinese character “fen” (traditional form) on his chest, meaning “shit” (as in dung / manure) – both of these photos were taken May 1, 2007. Check out the full series here.
I have shared some more of Doug’s work below too. To see his full portfolio, link here. Bravo, well done. // AjS
:: this post if for the late Ian Talty, a photographer known best for his graffiti snaps who tragically drown on Sunday. Thanks for all the great photographs. // AjS
:: head over to The Boston Globe for a compelling photo essay that takes a look at North Korea from across the Yalu river in Dandong (Liaoning Province), China. // AjS
:: I recently bought a Lomo action sampler camera (4 exposures over about 1 second) at this shop as a present for someone. Here is our first go at it what is apparently called Lomography. Decent results and a lot of fun. There is something to be said for the anticipation and suspense created by a camera that: 1) doesn’t have a proper view finder, 2) no immediate photo review screen, 3) and a couple days wait for the film to develop. The mood and character captured by Lomo snaps is unique – almost like a mini movie; a sliver of time and reality. I like it. // AjS
:: I randomly came across this photograph on my computer and I have no idea how it got there or whose work it is, but it’s excellent. Can anyone help source / cite this? // AjS
