:: we had a party last night at my place and I decide to capture the second half of it with a new iPhone app called Hipstimatic. I used the Kaimal Mark II lens, however, there are quite a few more you can add-on.
I’m such a fan of the snapshot aesthetic. // AjS
:: over the past few weeks we’ve been posting time-lapse videos of the live art performances from Search for Creative City (寻城记), an event that NeochaEDGE collaborated on with the Knowledge and Innovation Community (KIC). Since the graffiti writers who participated in the event are pretty much the best Shanghai has to offer in terms of street-art, we pulled them all together in a single post for everyone to enjoy. Link here to see time-lapse videos of pieces by Dezio, Popil, Mr. Lan, SAIL, AEK, Lamian (拉面), Shier, and HKER.

:: taken in my apartment building in Shanghai; my neighbor’s window sill. Can anyone help me understand what the hell this is for? I see it everyday on my way to the elevator and just haven’t gotten around to asking Mr. Deng yet. // AjS
:: the acoustic guitars, harmonicas, and this retro Hohner Melodica came out recently while I was picnicking in Shanghai with friends. One of those friends was Zhang Feng (张峰, aka Bono), the frontman for the well-known Shanghai-based indie rock band Banana Monkey. See below for a short video catching Zhang Feng play a few crowd-pleasers, namely (and in order) Qi Qin’s The World Outside, Wang Fei’s One Little Wish, Luo Dayou’s Childhood, Qi Qin’s Sometime Around Winter, and Eric Clapton’s Wonderful Tonight.
If the VIMEO video loads slowly, try viewing it on Tudou. For more from Banana Monkey on NeochaEDGE, link here. For more from Zhang Feng on NeochaEDGE, link here. // AjS

:: I spotted this throw-up today in Shanghai while heading down Xinle Rd., near the the Huating Rd. intersection. I recently saw the same throw-up just around the corner from this one. Does anyone know whose work this is? If you spot graffiti or urban art anywhere in China, please share it with me at . I’d like to document it on NeochaEDGE. :: taken at the Shanghai Botanical Gardens (上海植物园), where I spent my Sunday picnicking and lounging with friends on this grass patch of paradise. This photo was taken on my iPhone using PANO, a fun panoramic (vertical or horizontal) application I highly recommend. This is four separate photos stitched together, the application can do up to sixteen. Me like-y. // AjS
:: I recently came across some wet paint in Shanghai on Huating Rd. If you know whose work this is, please let me know in the comments section below. I wouldn’t be surprised to see more pieces going up in that area – it’s home to a fair amount of low-profile wall space. For more graffiti in China on NeochaEDGE, link here. // AjS

:: see below for a snap taken by Stephanie Wang in Shanghai at Moganshan Rd. It’s great how even simple sketch graffiti can bring to life an otherwise lifeless shed. For more graffiti in China on NeochaEDGE, link here. // AjS

:: see below for some random graffiti tags and throw-ups I spotted in Shanghai on Xiangyang Rd. close to the Xinle Rd. intersection. These practically cover the entire length of a temporary construction wall that wraps around the southeast corner of the intersection. Nothing too special, but its kinda rare to see so many pieces strung together like this in Shanghai outside of Moganshan Rd. To see more Chinese graffiti, link here. // AjS
