:: Danwei TV presents The Shanghai Beat, “Gay Shanghai.” In this episode, host Adam Schokora (小石) spends an evening exploring all things gay in Shanghai with local scene queen, Comrade Yutian, a self-proclaimed expert on queer Shanghai. This episode also features a performance by the Shanghainese garage-rock band Banana Monkey, shot in their rehearsal studio.

:: Danwei TV presents The Shanghai Beat “Music Shorts” with a 3-song performance by Hard Queen, an up-and-coming basement / indie pop band from Shanghai. This video is also on Tudou for faster loading in China, and was originally posted on Danwei.

This video was shot in mid-July 2008 at ENO during an exhibition showcasing Popil’s graffiti / illustration work.

:: Danwei TV presents episode 4 of The Shanghai Beat, titled “Graffiti Shanghai” (with bilingual subtitles). You can also watch on Tudou (faster loading / higher quality in China).

For this episode, 56minus1 (Adam Schokora / 小石) meets up with three of Shanghai’s best known graffiti artists: PopilZhang Lan (AKA: Mr. Lan), and HKer, to get their inside perspective on the local graf scene and catch them in action painting a few pieces.
