Sunday, January 11th, 2009:: the Chinese government recently declared September 14th “Netizen Culture Day;” apparently a date that marks the anniversary of the first email message sent from China in 1987. Interestingly, the date 9/14 is a homonym for “to die” (就要死) in Mandarin, as one Chinese netizen noted here, suggesting a backhanded gesture from the government.
